Burn 24 Prologue

Well tomorrow at noon, I'll be on a team of 4 participating in the Burn 24 mountain bike race. I was going to travel down tomorrow morning, but now I'm leaving later today. I only worked for about an hour and a half today before receiving an exasperated phone call from my mom. Seems my basement drains decided to back up spewing water and assorted drain stuff into my basement. I headed home to clean up the mess. My dad normally would be a big help, but he had surgery yesterday, so not only can't he help; he can not even walk down the steps to see (MD's orders). I've drug the rugs outside, soaked them with soap and sprayed them with the hose. I've swept up a lot of the nasty water. Now I await the plumber's arrival to clean the pipes out so that I can finish cleaning the basement up. Before I leave Noke I need to wash the dog - he decided to jump in the water while I was spraying the rugs, clean the bathroom and clean myself. I stink from the rug poo. Lovely. I hope to get out of Roanoke and down to the race site sometime this evening so I can claim a nice camping spot. My pals are leaving town around 4:45p, but I'm not sure I'll be done and ready to roll by then. The car is packed with the exception of my bike, my coolers and my bananas. =) Full race recaps will follow.

Meanwhile, I hope everyone has a great Memorial Day weekend, and please take time to remember our veterans. It's their sacrifices and service that allow us to live as we do. We owe it to them to remember them this weekend. With that said, I am thinking of my grandfather: James L. Hamilton who served in the United States Army's 116th Infantry Division from 6 Dec 1940 until 15 Feb 1945. His boots hit the sand on Normandy Beach on D-Day and he served time in Northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe. R.I.P.

Eeew, sorry to hear about your basement. Hope it's all cleaned up by now and your dog didn't play any further fetch with the poo. And how did you go in your race? Did you have fun?
