Sorry it took so long for me to comment on your "long distance dedication"!
Amazing. Not sure how you can remember all of those, but impressive none the less.
I am not sure why naming trails has never caught on. Back when I started riding MTB (1989 I believe), there were a few trails that people rode and as new sections were built, some of them were named, typically for the person who marked them. but the names were only known to a few of us who were there at the time when the trail work happened and no one ever physically installed a sign to dedicate the tag. so, the name faded with time and most are just known now by the places they are located, typically in state forests, game areas and parks. robinettes is in an apple orchard but that is the name of the family who owns it. the ski hill trail is on private property at the cannonsburg ski area and is often confused with cannonsburg state game area. most people refer to that trail as egypt valley (the name of the main road that leads to the trail head). individual trail sections or loops typically have no name except at the newest trail luton park. there they have designated the loops as blue, red, yellow, green and soon, black. wow. really original huh?
i am sure "folks" have named sections over the years and shared them with friends, but officially the names never stick. i call one section of sweet, fast, slightly downhill trail at egypt valley "the freeway" but someone else might have a different name. the only time i have ridden on a signed, named trail section is at the iceman cometh race. only during that race on the vasa ski trail, the promoter signs areas of the trail to sponsors, trail builders and even wind damage (a section was called tornado alley due to serious damage one year that required a last minute rerouting of the trail).
maybe its an east coast-west coast phenom of assigning trail names. it just hasn't seemed to have caught on here. i will do my best to get the word out and see if i can rally support for "the freeway" but someone else might have a better name to offer!
